What is an Infrared Sauna?
Steam showers can be expensive to operate. Consumers often weigh and balance the cost of operating steam showers with their health benefits. A good alternative is the infrared sauna. Infrared saunas utilize the heat that is produced by the infrared radiation. Many people are disturbed by the word "radiation" because it conjures up a lot of nasty things such as nuclear radiation. But not all types of radiation are bad. In fact, the human body can tolerate radiation. This is because the white visible light that comes from the sun is actually a type of radiation.
The sun produces different kinds of electromagnetic radiation. The white visible light is just a small part. Another small part, which is reproduced in infrared saunas, is the infrared radiation. This radiation cannot be seen by the naked eye. And the good news is that every living body, human or animal, emits infrared radiation. This is why some people refer to it as heat radiation. This heat is produced in infrared saunas and directed towards the users of the sauna. The heat enters the body and stimulates the muscles in a process called conversion.
Infrared saunas utilize the technology invented by Dr. Tadashi Ishikawa, a researcher at the Fuji Medical in Japan. The technology is very different from technology found in tanning salons. In tanning salons, the radiation used is called ultraviolet ray. Such radiation has been known to have serious medical side effects. The infrared radiation of infrared saunas is abundantly found in the environment and has never been linked to any kind of disease.
Typical infrared saunas are small rooms that contain several heaters that produce infrared. This means that one infrared sauna can be installed in the home. In cold environments, these infrared saunas have tight enclosures. In warm environments, infrared saunas may include open windows. When compared to traditional saunas, the infrared saunas can provide as much comfort and relaxation. But there is no more need to heat the peridotite stones and the logs around the room just to produce the right amount of heat. There is also no need for electric or wood stoves.
Infrared saunas have heaters that do not heat the air but instead heat the body of the user. The temperatures, which are between 110 and 130 degrees Fahrenheit, are maintained even when the body sweats profusely. Some people report that infrared saunas are better than traditional ones because they sweat more.
